I saw a presentation today on federated identity and the presenters were encouraging everyone to work towards a multi-agent federated group (think spoke and hub). They wanted to do things like connect all your school records, track teacher performance or link all of your educational identities together in order to leverage resources.
My question is, given the interest the US government has taken with national ID cards and NSA wiretapping, would we just be handing over a neat-and-tidy data set to the government?
What would stop the government from secretly compelling any old trusted ID provider from leaking credentials or IDs?
What starts out as a great convenience and movement could turn into our worst fears about government records of our activities.
